We are all now aware that the sea, which covers 70% of the surface of the planet, poses a major challenge for the future.

An interactive environment, it influences and is influenced by climate change.  A living environment, it conceals biological resources, some over or badly exploited, and others little known or under developed.  Already exploited as a vast mineral and energy reserve, the sea’s potential demands to be explored and tapped, pointing the way to sustainable development. 

A place of human interaction and activity and a shifting link between continents, the sea will become a dangerous place if vessel safety fails to adequately protect people and coastlines. 
Sustainable development, security and safety are increasingly urgent issues calling for innovative solutions.
 Brittany has the strengths and the highly motivated players needed to respond to this call, to launch new activities within long-established companies and to create new businesses and jobs. 
 
Within the context of the Brittany Maritime Cluster, companies and research laboratories share knowledge and combine skills in order to place new products and services on world markets.
