Half of France’s research capability in marine-related fields is concentrated in Brittany.
The region has 2 900 researchers including
- 1 600 in publicly funded research centres, universities and grandes écoles (selective HE),
- 1 300 in private laboratories and consultancies, major companies and industrial SMEs in primarily coastal locations.
These bodies, a number of which are involved in the new officially recognised projects, are members of the Brittany Maritime Cluster and for some time have been developing joint international programmes.
