| ODONTOMER: Preservative-free oral and dental hygiene products based on marine active substances |
Theme 4 : Marine biological resources/BiotechnologyThe ODONTOMER project is proposing to use seawater and seaweed extracts for oral and dental hygiene products such as toothpaste and mouthwash. Introducing marine-derived molecules into these products is expected to lead to benefits associated with antioxidant properties, pathogenic bacteria inhibition and anti-inflammatory and soothing effects for the prevention and even treatment of certain oral pathologies. Two Breton companies have come together as part of the ODONTOMER project: Yslab in Quimper, which designs, develops and manufactures hygiene and health products using marine ingredients, and the Algues et Mer company based on the island of Ouessant, which supplies marine biomass. Two research centres – the microbiology lab and the cell and plant biology lab of the University of Rennes 1 – will be responsible for the scientific element at each stage of the project’s development – extraction, screening and formula specification.
