There is considerable demand for more effective monitoring of the sea and for better protection of shipping and seamen, as well as coastal areas and their inhabitants, particularly in fragile maritime zones.
Innovative equipment must be designed and perfected and new services created to respond to the emerging needs of this rapidly developing market. Global turnover is estimated to reach 150 billion euros by 2010.
This sector involves major players such as Thalès, DCN, Alcatel and Thomson, as well as high-tech companies such as ECA, iXSea, SERCEL, C2 Innovativ’Systems, Elektrobit, Kenta Electronic and Nasca Géomarine, representing a total of 19 000 jobs in Brittany.
