Maritime Cluster's network

Collaborative initiative

The Brittany Maritime Cluster is a government and local authority funded association with a current membership of 238. Half its members are small and medium businesses, 28 are large companies and 44 are research centres and selective HE establishments.

The Brittany Maritime Cluster initiative involves developing knowledge and skill-sharing synergies aimed at encouraging innovation and developing maritime-related activities and jobs.

Such initiatives are already a familiar concept in Brittany. The GR2A - Groupement Régional de Recherche en Acoustique (Acoustics Regional Research Group), Haliod, a group of industrialists working on deep offshore and undersea robotics, and Littoralis, a group of environmental consultancy and engineering businesses with a proven reputation, have already demonstrated that forging regional-based links between companies, laboratories, HE institutions and universities, motivated by a willingness to develop innovative collaborative projects, is an effective way of working.

Founder members

Key “historic” players in this dynamic enterprise, Thalès, DCNS, IFREMER, Brest Iroise Technopole and Brest Chamber of Commerce and Industry along with Veolia, seized on the government’s initiative to create “economic competitiveness clusters”, and immediately grasped the concept’s more far-reaching potential.
